Timbavati | South Africa

Spread along the western edge of Kruger National Park and just north of the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, the Timbavati Private Game Reserve is a private 60,000-hectare, fenceless game reserve with free-roaming wildlife. Established by a group of like-minded game farmers in 1956, the Reserve is made up of a group of private game farms and is considered to be one of South Africa’s top game viewing areas.

The low-veld landscapes of dense woods and waving golden grasslands are home to the Big Five, as well as wildebeest, wild dog, impala, kudu, waterbuck and Burchell’s zebra. Big cats abound, with lion, leopard, and cheetah putting on incredible displays of hunting prowess, along with the reserve’s famous white lions, which exist nowhere else in the world. Extremely elusive and rare, the park’s four white lions live in two prides in the reserve, and while seeing one comes down to sheer luck, each sighting is a breath-taking and almost ethereal experience.

The ‘Mother City,’ as Cape Town is fondly known, is all about the great outdoors and is jam-packed with things to see and do from climbing up Lion’s Head at dawn for a spectacular sunrise to kite-surfing with the locals along the white sandy shores of Blouberg Beach – there is something for everyone.

Spend the day on one of the four stunning blue-flag beaches of Clifton, whose powder white sands and gin-clear waters are some of the best in the world, followed by sundowners at one of the trendy cafés along the palm tree-lined beach of Camps Bay. Climb up or take the rotating cable car to the top of Table Mountain to soak up the spectacular 360⁰ panoramic views of the city below, or take a ferry trip across Table Bay to Robben Island and experience the life Nelson Mandela led in this isolated prison for over 20 years. Take a trip down the Cape Peninsula to the very tip at Cape Point and see the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, or enjoy an unforgettable swim with tuxedo-ed penguins at Boulder’s Beach in Simonstown. For something more relaxed, enjoy a gourmet picnic at the world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens or sip award-winning wines on a historic farm in Constantia, home to the first wine warms in the country.
