Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

Straddling the border of Botswana and South Africa with Namibia to the west, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a vast wildlife preserve that is characterized by towering red dunes and dry river beds that are surprisingly packed with an array of desert-adapted wildlife.

Rugged and untamed with rough sandy roads and enormous, shifting sand dunes, this breath-taking terrain draws adventurers and wildlife-lovers from afar to experience Africa at her wildest where the red dunes meet the dry, arid scrublands and disappear into the horizon.

The park’s wondrous terrain is made up of parched, fossilized river valleys peppered with dwarfed trees and stunted bushes, golden grasslands and ochre-hued sand dunes where wildlife is abundant, being drawn to the sparse waterholes in the otherwise dry riverbed. The park is home to several species of antelope, including the ubiquitous gemsbok and springbok, along with eland, hartebeest, and a plethora of predators such as the famous black-maned Kalahari lion, brown hyenas, black-backed jackals, wild cats and the ever-shy Cape Fox. There are also over 170 species of birds in the park, many of which can be seen within a few miles of the campsites and lodges.
