Overview - Cape Town Tours

Lovingly referred to as the Mother City, Cape Town has earned a just reputation among visitors from across the globe as a city that welcomes you in its warm embrace, showcases a cosmopolitan cultural diversity, and offers an abundant variety of activities for people of all ages.

With its spectacular landscape, diverse activities and well-developed infrastructure, Cape Town offers the modern traveler the ideal destination for leisure and adventure.  It is frequently voted among the best cities to visit on vacation by noteworthy publications – and much of the local economy thrives thanks to a robust tourist industry.  Visitors from across the spectrum are sure to find the range of accommodation, cuisine and places of cultural and historical interest highly appealing.  The easy access to nature ensures an informative and fun experience for all.

Cape Town clings to the southwestern-most tip of Africa, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.  The city forms the gateway to the magnificent Cape Peninsula, a vast finger of mountainous land that curls southward into the ocean, blessing visitors with a feast of panoramic views – of which the most iconic is undoubtedly the level plateau of Table Mountain that looms large over the downtown area.

First visited by Portuguese explorers searching for a sea route to India in 1488, Cape Town began life as a humble replenishment station for passing ships that would later ply the so-called Spice Route, bringing exotic treasures to Europe from India and beyond.  In 1652, the Dutch established a colony, hoping to secure a monopoly on this strategic outpost, planting vegetable gardens and orchards and slowly starting to probe the interior and barter with the indigenous people.  Now established as a link between east and west, a steady stream of cultures descended, giving it the cosmopolitan flavor that exists to this day.

Our Cape Town Itinerary showcases all of these aspects, both within the city and further afield.  Each day offers informative tours that focus on different highlights, giving you a taste of Cape Town’s adventurous appeal and having you feel like you too have become a child of the Mother City.

Cape Town And Surroundings

On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, our representative awaits, ready to chauffeur you to your home base for the duration of your stay – The One&Only Resort.

Amid the buzz of the city, the resort offers a sanctuary of sophisticated leisure, nestled as it is on a private island bordering the vibrant Victoria & Alfred Waterfront – with cultivated waterways and a traditional harbor adding an authentic note to the surroundings.

Renowned throughout the world for delivering a superlative level of excellence in both hospitality and facilities, the resort stands proud among the city’s many fine establishments.  For one, it boasts the largest rooms among local hotels, each of which enjoys views of either the harbor or Table Mountain.  The décor is a bright traditional contemporary mix that balances form and functionality to perfection.  Large beds, comfortable seating and en-suite bathrooms with both a bathtub and rainfall shower complete the ensemble.

The emphasis on stylish comfort is carried throughout the resort facilities.  Feel free to make use of the fitness center, book a treatment in the serene spa, or soak up the sun on the pool deck.

Mealtimes offer a variety of excellent options, from the revered Nobu to the more casual Vista Bar or the Isola, which sits poolside.  In true Cape tradition, the hotel boasts one of the finest wine collections on the continent.  Be sure to stroll through the neighboring V&A Waterfront; a veritable retail paradise to pick up some trinkets for loved ones.

The One & Only Resort

Cape Peninsula Tour

Our representative will meet you at the reception after breakfast, ready to escort you on a spectacular tour of circumnavigating the Cape peninsula.  Be sure to bring your camera as there will be numerous photogenic stop-offs along the way.

The journey commences by heading across to the Atlantic seaboard through sizzling Seapoint and southwards to the chic suburbs of Clifton and Camps Bay – the place where the city’s glitterati gather to preen and pose on the white sandy beaches and trendy eateries.

Heading south, the dramatic coastal landscape moves into the limelight as you hug the shoreline at the foot of the Twelve Apostle peaks en route to the quaint enclave of Hout Bay.  Here, time and weather permitting, you may opt to hop on a boat to a nearby seal colony (at your own expense).

Next, you traverse arguably South Africa’s most dramatic road, Chapman’s Peak Drive, ingeniously carved into the mountainside and offering jaw-dropping views of the sparkling Atlantic.  Sweeping down from the heights, you pass numerous quaint surfer villages on your way to Cape Point Nature Reserve from which the views of the surging Atlantic are just awesome.

On the way back to the hotel, you’ll stop at a cute penguin colony and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens for a short walking tour.  Please note that lunch and entrance to the penguin colony are for your account.

Cape Winelands Tour

South Africa has a surprisingly proud wine heritage that began in the late 1600s when the French Huguenots found the climate and terrain favorable for wine production, and this morning after breakfast you will be collected at the resort for a full-day tour of the beautiful Cape Winelands.

Heading north from the city, the first stop is the Paarl Valley where you can sample a selection of wines and tour the cellar of a local estate.

Next, you head to arguably South Africa’s most beautiful village, Franschhoek,, steeped as it is in French culture, Cape Dutch architecture.  Here wine was produced to be served in the courts of Napoleon and European royalty, and you will get to sample from these cultivars and enjoy a sumptuous lunch (for your account).

Lastly, you visit South Africa’s second oldest town: Stellenbosch.  Once again, classical architecture and shady oak trees belie the fact that you are in Africa, and you will enjoy a final wine tasting before heading back to Cape Town and an evening at your leisure.  This is a great opportunity to try one of Cape Town’s many fabulous restaurants.  Just ask the concierge to assist in choosing one suited to your mood.

Cape City Tour

Since its humble beginning, Cape Town has grown into a kaleidoscopic city pulsing with life and dripping with history.  After breakfast, you will once again be collected at the resort, this time to be led on a half-day tour of the city’s historical and scenic highlights.

The tour will take you past many of the city’s most notable landmarks, starting with the Castle of Good Hope which was built in 1666.  Onward, you’ll pass the baroque City Hall on the Grand Parade, before seeing the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s diocese seat, St. George Cathedral.

From there you will see the site of the original gardens where produce was grown for passing ships, and is now a tranquil city park.  The colorful rows of houses of the Bo-Kaap district owe their joyful hues to the celebration of liberated slaves whose descendants, known as Cape Malays, were settled here.

A visit to a famous local jeweler is accompanied by an introduction to South Africa’s rich mineral and precious gem heritage, along with the opportunity to add some local bling to your jewelry case.

Lastly, and most highly recommended, is the opportunity to ascend to the summit of Table Mountain via an exhilarating ride in a revolving cable car.  Don’t miss the opportunity to get a heavenly perspective of the city bowl below you, as well as the curving lines of the coastline reaching off into the distance.  On a clear day, you might even see Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for many years.  The optional cable car and Table Mountain experience are for your account.

Upon completion, you’ll be whisked back to the resort in time for lunch, with the rest of the day at your leisure.

Homeward Bound

This morning, after breakfast, you will check out of the Hotel and will be returned to the airport, at which point we bid you a fond farewell with an open invitation to return.  Magical Africa Awaits!
