How much does a luxury African safari cost?

Most luxury African safaris cost between $1,000 and $2,000 per person per night. That usually covers a boutique lodge, an expert guide, game drives, park fees and most meals; season, destination and lodge choice move the number in either direction. When is the best time to see the Great Wildebeest Migration?

July to October is the best time to see the river crossings, in Kenya's Masai Mara and the northern Serengeti. For the calving season, travel between January and March, when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest are born on Tanzania's Ndutu Plains.
